ForexYard goes mobile – offers iPhone Forex trading

ForexYard, a fairly large Middle East broker, has just announced that it launched a Forex trading iPhone application.

It seems that the iPhone Forex trading market is becoming red hot with several Forex brokers and news providers lately introducing various types of iPhone Forex apps.

FXCM made its DailyFX portal available through iPhone and so did GFT, through its FX360 brand, while Oanda recently launched an iPhone currency converter. Back in May, Citi announced that its app was available for Blackberry and iPhone users – this is however just a way to access the actual platform, not quite a standalone iPhone Forex app.

It’s highly interesting to see which large broker will be the first to break into this market segment – after all iPhone users tend to be a high-end audience and the ability to be present on your clients phone might result in larger trading volumes. The ability to trade whenever, wherever is something all retail brokers should be able to provide as this is what clients demand for a while already – and if that’s what they want, that’s what you need to supply them with.

Those with iPhones and other top-of-the-line smartphones always want to have the latest and greatest at their fingertips, but I think traders should remember that the platform is only as good as their internet connection.

I personally use the Palm Pre for a lot of things, but my internet connection in New York City is a little too unreliable for me to reasonably think about trading through it. As long as traders have reasonable expectations of mobile trading software, I think this is a big step in the right direction. At least in the US, however, our cell networks are a little too unreliable to actively trade through our phones.

    Hi David,
Thanks for pointing this out. I agree and should have stressed this out in the article itself: professional trading over smartphones is almost impossible at this time. It’s difficult due to the small screen, oversimplified charts and connectivity problems. I don’t think smartphones will be able to replace computers in the next few years as a trading tool.
However, simplified trading over the iPhone is something that many non professional trader find very attractive and they represent a very large segment of the market. This is a huge growth driver for the Forex industry, especially in the developed countries where smartphones and money are abundant.
